Terms of Service
Last updated September 28, 2026
These terms cover using Codiva to teach and learn coding. We’ve tried to keep them short and in plain language.
The short version
- Use it to learn and teach
- Create classes, add students, write and run code. Don’t use Codiva to harm people or the service.
- Your code is yours
- You own what you make. We store it only so we can run Codiva for you, and you can export it at any time.
- Keep access safe
- Keep passwords, setup codes and recovery codes private. Teachers look after the accounts in their classes.
- Free to start
- The Free plan costs nothing. Teacher access is available as a monthly or annual subscription, and we never charge you without your agreement.
1. Accepting these terms
By creating a teacher account or using Codiva, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use Codiva with students on behalf of a school, you confirm that you’re allowed to do so.
2. Accounts
- Teachers are responsible for the student and classroom admin accounts in their classes, for sharing setup codes only with the intended person, and for showing class codes only to their own students.
- Keep your password and recovery codes private. If you think someone else has access to your account, change your password straight away.
- Teachers can reset, disable or delete the student accounts in their classes.
3. Students
Students use Codiva under their teacher’s supervision and their school’s rules. Students can create an account only with a class code from their teacher, or with a setup code for an account their teacher made.
4. Acceptable use
Please don’t use Codiva to:
- break the law or your school’s rules;
- try to get into accounts, classes or projects that aren’t yours;
- bully, harass or threaten anyone;
- create or share code designed to harm other people’s devices or data;
- overload, disrupt or probe the service, for example with automated sign-in attempts or cryptocurrency mining;
- store other people’s personal information in projects without their permission.
Code runs in the browser of the person who runs it, in a sandbox. You’re responsible for the code you choose to run.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the code and projects you create. You give us permission to store, copy and process them only as needed to run Codiva for you. You can export a project as a ZIP at any time.
6. Plans and billing
Codiva has a Free plan and a paid Teacher plan, described on our pricing page. Students never pay. Plan limits, such as the number of classes and students, are listed there.
- Each teacher can start one 30-day free trial of a monthly or annual Teacher subscription. We ask for a card when the trial starts, and the first payment is taken when it ends unless you cancel before then.
- The Teacher plan is billed monthly or annually in advance, depending on the option selected at checkout, in Canadian dollars plus any applicable taxes. Payments are processed by Stripe.
- It renews automatically at the selected monthly or annual interval until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from Manage billing in your dashboard. The plan stays active until the end of the billing period you’ve paid for, then your account moves to the Free plan.
- We don’t refund partial subscription billing periods, except where the law requires it.
- If a payment fails, Stripe tries again. If it still can’t be collected, your account moves to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted when you move to Free.
- We’ll tell you at least 30 days before a price change, and it applies from your next renewal. We won’t charge you without your agreement.
7. Availability and changes
We work to keep Codiva running smoothly, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features. Please keep copies of important work using Export.
8. Ending your use
You can stop using Codiva at any time. Teachers can delete student accounts from their class roster. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms. Where it’s appropriate, we’ll contact the teacher responsible first.
9. Disclaimer
Codiva is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Codiva isn’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for lost data. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that can’t be limited by law.
11. Changes to these terms
When these terms change, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll also post a notice on this site. Continuing to use Codiva after a change means you accept the updated terms.
